About
Inspiration
My work is inspired by the nature in my immediate surroundings. The forests, the meadows with hopping hares, the grazing cows in the mist. Even the tiny ladybug on a leaf in my garden. I observe all this and see the beauty and the connections between all living things. I see wild bees buzzing on apple blossoms in the spring. Butterflies eating the fallen fruit in the fall. The oak tree covers the ground with a thick layer of leaves for the worms, so the mole can aerate and loosen the soil for the growth of new plants and flowers. Everything has a time and a purpose. A precarious balance.
As an artist, I explore the idea of a new era in which humans, nature, and technology together create a new balance. The founder of this idea (The Symbiocene) is the Australian environmental philosopher Glenn Albrecht. His idea is a response to the Anthropocene , the era in which humans dominate and exploit nature. An era with all sorts of negative consequences, such as the
Climate change and biodiversity loss. Through my work, I try to get people to see nature in a new light. I realize how special natural processes can be, how beautiful and unique nature is. I hope to inspire people to strive for a future in which humans and nature can coexist symbiotically .
I choose the slow process of pottery making
I create diverse work, from everyday objects to art objects. I love turning everyday objects on the potter's wheel, but also building and shaping the clay by hand. While I can achieve a smooth finish, it's essential to leave wrinkles and imperfections here and there. The work should show that it has been in motion.
I believe that handmade objects are important in our fast-paced, digital world. The imperfections in the clay, the variations in the glaze, and the differences in the size of the cups are all signs of handcraftedness.
While every object can be seen as a work of art, it can ultimately be a utility. I love knowing that you can enjoy a cup of tea from one of my cups in the morning.
I CHOOSE TO MAKE INTENTIONAL “SLOW POTTERY”
I studied at ARTEZ University of the Arts, where I graduated as an independent visual artist. My love for clay blossomed. Clay is Mother Earth. Without nature, there is no life.
